Mustard for me too. Perhaps we could offer to pay for the re-paint!

I did wonder what the mustard livery would look like with the blood and custard carriage stock  - its not too bad at all.  Wink

I have always though a nice really dark blue would look nice, darker than No12's Thomas colour or a dark brown with gold and white lining, could this be a way to bring people over for a enthusiasts weekend later in the year.

On a more extreme idea how about several plasic or glass fibre mock ups of the engines around the Island or even the UK and get different groups, schools and companys to paint them like the cow parade or Super Lamb Bananas in Liverpool the other year, would be great publicity for the Islands railways and maybe raise some money for the railway or other charity

I would like to see the pony truck lining was removed.

The locos in the old 60s-70s images look much better without the lining, though in some images they look almost black.

Also GH Wood livery would more authentic in it's green livery without it.

How long has the pony truck lining been around?

You find that the pony truck lining on the axlebox covers has always been a feature.  The reason that they look black in pictures is oil spills, dirt and grime coving up the lining.

Although, there a couple of examples that didn't feature lining, but they are few and far between

I thought that might be case with the oil and muck covering the lining especially on the pre-1965 images.

However I cannot find an image of an engine with the pony truck lining in the Ailsa years.

Does anyone have an image of this?

When some of the locos were repainted into Ailsa green in 1967 none of them had pony truck lining. However, when No. 4 "Loch" was repinted in 1968 after reboilering, it appeared with pony truck lining and presumably this has been applied to all locos on subsequent repaints.

Generally I'm happy with the colour of the engines and caridges the way they are. Though I would like to see another bayer peacock in apple green to balance it out a bit.

If the Manx Peacocks were meant to be pink, purple or othewise with spots then the Isle of Man Railway Company would have done so. Please lets remain realistic and keep to the historic liverys. Preferably all the same i.e the correct 1940's Indian red.  My choice would be to have the whole fleet back into the correct hue of  Aisla Green which nobody has yet to establish! No 5 should yeald the hue somewhere under  that negleted coat she wears at present. Huh

Unlikely. The vexed question of correct liveries is a common point of discussion on a far wider variety of subjects than that of Ailsa Green. The traction engine and classic car worlds are probably the most well known.
The fact is that paint will loose its original colour over time. It is accelerated in sunlight but remains a problem whatever the conditions it exists in.
Add to this the hit and miss methods employed in mixing the paint at the time, not just in the paint shop but at the manufacturer aswell and it can be assumed that even in 1972, two engines in Ailsa green would show distinct differences in hue.

Liveries, liveries, liveries.

Whatever will help with marketing the railway on the adjacent islands and generate more visitors, ticket / souvenir sales. Basically, something for everyone, one each of historical liveries please on the loco front, and also on some carriages too.

Uniform livery is of no interest to younger generations (nor me) - it's for large scale or modern transport systems. We don't need the trains looking like buses and adopting the Bus Vannin corporate image.

In a perfect world, maybe. But in a perfect world we'd have the whole system as it was.....

It's the 21st century now....the IMR is now another tourist attraction which needs to attract families and tourists to survive - very little income is made from enthusiasts. If engines in different colours attract families ('we rode on the green/blue/red engine today!') then so be it.... Smiley
